Contestant 24 With the truly amazing Jie Zhang, we’ve come to the last of our contestant presentations. Coached by multi-Grammy winning Leif Ove Andsnes, the Chinese girl is certainly a contender to be reckoned with.

Miss Zhang started to learn the piano from the age of 5, and won the 1st Prize in her first competition in Jinan, at 8 years of age. In 1996 she took part in the National Piano Contest “Xi Xing Cup” and came 3rd.

Four years later she was sent by the school to join the International Piano Selection, where she made it to the final. In 2001 she won 2nd Prize in the Youth category at “Toyama Cup” (Hong Kong), and in 2003 she came 3rd in Grieg International Piano Competition. Additionally, she received the Audience Prize.

Zhang has twice (2008 and 2011) won the top prize at Norwegian Chamber Music Competition with her quartet group, and in 2010 she won Prinsesse Astrid’s Music Prize.

After two years in Hochschule für Music and Theater in Hamburg, she is now back continuing her studies in Oslo with Leiv Ove Andsnes and Håvard Gimse.

She has been a soloist at the “Peer Gynt Stevnet”, with the Peer Gynt Chamber Orchestra, with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in the Grieg Hall, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Radio Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and Donetsk Opera Orchestra.
