Born in 1980, Kristian Lindberg began making waves in his native Norway at a young age. In 1997 he won the Norwegian Young Pianists Competition and the following year represented Norway in the Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Vienna. Since then Lindberg has been a prizewinner in several competitions, including 2nd Prize in the 12th International Piano Competition in Pinerolo, Italy (2006); most recently he was selected for Rikskonsertene’s prestigious INTRO Classical programme, which promotes the cream of young Norwegian musicians.
In 2006 Kristian Lindberg completed a soloist’s diploma (the highest level of postgraduate performance study) at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, where he studied with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg.
Lindberg has performed with several Norwegian orchestras, including concertos by Liszt and Chopin with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and works of Shostakovich and Mozart with Oslo Camerata; he has also performed Grieg’s piano concerto in the Thailand Cultural Centre, Bangkok, and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 1 with the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra in Moscow. He has given recitals all over Europe, and has performed at several festivals, including the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Vinterfestspill in Røros and the Ultima Contemporary Music Festival in Oslo.
Kristian Lindberg is also passionate about chamber music, and has formed a piano trio with two of Norway’s most prominent young string players, violinist Øyvind Bjorå and cellist Audun Sandvik.
