David Jae-Weon Huh

    In later years, South Korea have nurtured an enormous amount of classical talents, but few are as gifted as the tremendous David Jae-Weon Huh.

    Born in South Korea, pianist David Jae-Weon Huh is recognized for his sense of poetry and technical brilliance. Mr. Huh has won prizes at many national and international piano competitions. He was a grand prize winner at Korea Music Association Competition where he was awarded the culture minister award, and he also got a first prize both at the Chopin Piano Competition in Korea and Korea Music Competition. In 2007, David Jae-Weon Huh began to grab the international attention by winning first prize at the China Shanghai international competition. Subsequently, he was awarded the bronze medal at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, and also got a special prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition.

    David Jae-Weon Huh has performed extensively throughout many European countries, Asia and the United States. He appeared in numerous festivals including recital invitations at Animato Debut Concert in Paris, Nakanoshima International Music Festival, San Francisco Music Festival, Leipzig Euro Music Festival, Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Festival, International Holland Music Sessions, Yamaha Rising Artist Series, KNUA Pianist Series, Kumho Young Artist Series in Seoul, and Asia Music Festival in Kanazawa, Japan.

    Mr. Huh has also performed with many orchestras including Tokyo symphony orchestra, Prime philharmonic orchestra, Shanghai philharmonic orchestra, Pohang philharmonic orchestra, Daegu philharmonic orchestra, KNUA symphony orchestra, and Mostly philharmonic orchestra. In addition, he gave numerous chamber music concerts and especially collaborated twice with highly revered cellist Myung Wha Chung.

    After graduating from Seoul Arts High School where he was named a distinguished alumnus, David Jae-Weon Huh studied at Korea National University of Arts under the guidance of prof. Choong-Mo Kang. He holds both Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degree from Korea National University of Arts, and pursued a Master of Music at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston on a full scholarship, studying with prof. Wha Kyung Byun and Russell Sherman. Moving to Germany, he was accepted into soloklasse program at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where he continues his studies under prof. Bernd Goetzke and prof. Ewa Kupiec.

    Recently, he has finished a recording session for radio broadcasting at NDR in Hannover and David Huh will be featured in four recitals in Netherland including the Royal Concertgebouw debut in Amsterdam for the 2015-2016 season.
